Fibre tracking application
The Gut Nerd App
A fibre-first web application designed to make daily tracking, plant diversity, progress, and practical education feel clear and encouraging.
- Product discovery
- Product design
- Full-stack development
The challenge
Generic nutrition trackers can make fibre logging tedious and miss foods, portions, and eating patterns familiar to Caribbean users. The product also needed to turn raw totals into useful feedback without overwhelming people.
Our role
Product discovery, user journeys, wireframes, interface and design-system work, responsive React development, Firebase data architecture, authentication, analytics, and administrator workflows.
The solution
A fibre-first web app with catalogue and custom food logging, explicit serving conversions, daily and weekly progress, plant-diversity guidance, editable history, motivational feedback, recipe discovery, and role-protected administration.
The outcome
An end-to-end member and administrator experience that brings food logging, fibre calculations, habit visualization, catalogue operations, and recipe content into one responsive Caribbean-focused product.
Behind the experience
How the experience came together.
Accurate, explainable serving calculations
Fibre is calculated from the amount eaten, catalogue portions, fibre-per-portion values, and explicit compatible volume conversions. Unsupported conversions fail safely instead of silently guessing.
Analytics that scale with the product
Firestore transactions keep intake records and derived daily and all-time summaries aligned, giving administrator views compact data without rereading every historical entry.
A catalogue built for repeat use
A version marker lets the application cache the full food catalogue and refresh it only when needed, improving repeat visits while keeping administrator changes current.
Content shared across products
Published recipes are read from The Gut Nerd's separate content system through a clear Firebase integration boundary, keeping editorial content apart from private tracking data.
